Overview
What this trip is
Slovenians say you're not really Slovenian until you've climbed Triglav. At 2,864 m it's the high point of the Julian Alps, and the final ridge — cabled, airy, hands-on — is one of the great non-technical summit days in Europe.
We start from Lake Bohinj, climb through the Voje valley to the high huts, summit with a certified local mountain guide, then walk out the long, quiet way through the Seven Lakes Valley.
It's thrifty because Slovenia's hut network does the hard work: dorm beds, big plates of jota and štruklji, and no need for a support vehicle.

Itinerary
Day 1Ljubljana to Bohinj
Meet at Ljubljana bus station mid-afternoon and take the public bus to Lake Bohinj. Kit check, briefing and dinner in Stara Fužina.
Day 2Stara Fužina to Vodnikov dom12 km · ↑ 1,300 m · ↓ 50 m
Up through the Mostnica gorge and the Voje valley, then a steady climb through forest and pasture to Vodnikov dom (1,817 m) with Triglav filling the view.
Day 3Summit day8 km · ↑ 1,100 m · ↓ 770 m
Early start to Dom Planika (2,401 m), gear up, and climb the cabled ridge over Mali Triglav to the Aljaž Tower on the summit. Descend the west side to Koča na Doliču (2,151 m).
Day 4Into the Seven Lakes Valley10 km · ↑ 250 m · ↓ 720 m
Over the Hribarice plateau — limestone, snow patches and ibex — then down the chain of lakes to the hut at Dvojno jezero (1,685 m).
Day 5Komarča and Lake Bohinj9 km · ↑ 50 m · ↓ 1,150 m
Past Črno jezero and down the steep Komarča wall to Savica waterfall and the lake shore at Ukanc. Swim, late lunch, bus back to Ljubljana for a final night.
Day 6Depart
Trip ends after breakfast. Ljubljana airport is 30 minutes by bus.

What’s basic about this trip
- Huts are dormitories with shared washrooms. Some have no showers; none have hot water you'd write home about.
- The summit ridge is exposed. You don't need climbing experience, but you do need a head for heights.
- If the weather says no, the guide says no. We'll walk an alternative route; there are no refunds for a missed summit.

Trip FAQs
Do I need via ferrata experience?
No. You need hill-walking fitness, sure feet and no serious fear of heights. Your guide will show you how to use the lanyard and will short-rope anyone who wants extra security.
What happens in bad weather?
Thunderstorms and the summit ridge don't mix. We have a spare half-day built in and an alternative high route if the top is off. The guide's decision is final.
