Overview
What this trip is
Jebel Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa, ninety minutes from Marrakech, and needs no technical skill outside winter — just legs, lungs and a pre-dawn start.
Most trips go straight up and down the main valley. We take the longer way round through the Azzaden valley, which spreads the altitude gain over an extra day, doubles your summit chances and swaps the crowds for walnut groves and terraced villages.
Mules carry the bags, a cook travels with us, and the money goes directly to an Imlil-based Amazigh (Berber) guiding team we contract without intermediaries.

Itinerary
Day 1Arrive Marrakech
Evening briefing at our riad-hostel in the medina.
Day 2Imlil to the Azzaden valley12 km · ↑ 800 m · ↓ 650 m
Drive to Imlil (1,740 m), meet the muleteers and cross Tizi Mzik (2,489 m) to the village of Tizi Oussem.
Day 3Azzaden to Toubkal refuge13 km · ↑ 1,700 m · ↓ 400 m
Past the Ighouliden waterfall and up the long zigzags to the Aguelzim pass (3,560 m), then a traverse to the refuge at 3,207 m.
Day 4Summit day17 km · ↑ 960 m · ↓ 2,250 m
Up the South Cwm by head torch to the summit tripod for sunrise, back to the refuge for a second breakfast, then down the Mizane valley past the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to Aroumd.
Day 5Back to Marrakech3 km · ↓ 200 m
Short walk down to Imlil, transfer to Marrakech, free afternoon in the souks and a final group dinner at the food stalls of Jemaa el-Fna (own expense).

Trip ends after breakfast.

What’s basic about this trip
- Altitude is real at 4,000 m. Headaches are common; our route is designed to help, but some people don't summit.
- The refuge is busy, basic and cold. Dorm platforms, squat or shared toilets.
- Summit day is a 900 m scree climb starting around 5 am, followed by a long descent.

Trip FAQs
Why not run this in winter?
From roughly December to March Toubkal is a snow climb needing crampons, ice axe and winter skills. We may add a separate winter departure; this itinerary is the snow-free version.
Is a guide compulsory?
Yes. Since 2018 Moroccan authorities require a licensed local guide for Toubkal, with a passport check on the trail — bring yours on the trek.
