Huts are why our trips cost what they do. They are also small communities with their own rules. Here are the ones nobody tells you.
Boots off at the door
Every hut has a boot room. Boots, poles and wet shells live there; hut slippers or your own sandals go on. Walking into the dining room in boots is the fastest way to meet the warden.
Bring a liner, not a sleeping bag
Blankets and pillows are provided. A silk or cotton liner is required for hygiene and weighs 150 grams.
Lights out means lights out
Dorm quiet hours usually start at 22:00. Pack your bag the night before, keep a head torch on red, and do your rustling in the corridor. Bring earplugs; someone will snore, and it may be you.
Cash is king, water is precious
Many huts have no card machine and some have no spring. Carry enough cash for drinks and lunch, and do not expect a shower. Order dinner when you arrive, not when you are hungry.
